Coaching Requirements


Now accepting coaching applications for the 2024/2025 season!
If you are interested in coaching (Head Coach duties/Assistant Coach duties) and you have not already filled out a coaching application, please request coaching application from vp-admin@islanderhockey.ca 

Anyone wishing to be a; coach, manager, treasurer, and/or safety person must have a current criminal record check received by the KPMHA Registrar before August 20, 2024.

1. Criminal Record Check (this can take up to 2 weeks to complete)

  • Cost: free for volunteers
  • Re-certification: Prior to the beginning of each season and before stepping on the ice.
  • Method: On Line

Completed CRC's will be sent back to the KPMHA Registrar.
Must be completed before each season begins and before stepping on the ice. 

*The key is to start this process early, a CRC can take up to 2 weeks to receive back.

 

2. Respect in Sport for Leaders (every 5 years)

  • Cost: $35 
  • Re-certification: 5 years
  • Method: E Learning
  • Completion Time: 3 Hours
  • Completion Date: Before Season starts and before stepping on the ice.

 

3. Concussion Awareness Tool

  • BC Hockey announced June 27, 2016 that all BC Hockey team officials are required to be qualified in the Concussion Awareness Training Tool (CATT) prior to their participation in any practice or game starting for the 2016 - 2017 season. This includes safety personnel, team managers, and all coaches
  • The link for the 40 minute course is embedded in the bulletin. It is FREE!
  • Completion Date: Before Season starts and before stepping on the ice.

**It is a good idea to save a copy of your completed certificate**

 

4. Coach Agreement (part of the coaching application)

 

5. Coaching Certification:

Coach Level + Hitting Clinic (Formerly Hybrid) and/or Developmental 1

  • All coaches must have completed the required BC Hockey clinics before December 1st.

 

Recreational Teams Requirements
U7 and U9 Coach 1 
U11 Coach 2 - Head Coaches must also have Checking Skills.
U13 Coach 2 - Head Coaches must also have Checking Skills.
U15 Coach 2 - Head Coaches must also have Checking Skills. 
U18 Coach 2 - Head Coaches must also have Checking Skills
   
Competitive Teams  
U11 Coach 2 Head Coaches must also have Checking Skills.
U13 Development 1, Head Coaches must also have Checking Skills and MED 
U15 Development 1, Head Coaches must also have Checking Skills and MED 
U18 Development 1, Head Coaches must also have Checking Skills and MED
